Film Log Line by Jessica Sheinfeld

This is a film idea that Sophie and I collabarated on together,

Log Line: You are always stopped and stop lights stuck in your thoughts, but what if the people around you knew what you were thinking?

Undefeated Documentary (2011) by Jessica Sheinfeld

Undefeated is a documentary about a football team in a poor area of Tennessee.  It's shown that these kids on the team have no chance of amounting to anything as they grow older given their states and conditions they were brought up in.  It isn't until the new coach arrives that they start to have hopes for their futures.  Most of these kids don't grow up with a present father figure so for most until coach Courtney arrives.  Not a single kid on the team had a parent attend college, but every kid had at least one parent who had been behind bars.  Coach Courtney relates to the team on the same level of not having a present father figure to look up to.  The story is based around Coach Courtney and three of the football players.  During the day Coach Courtney owns a company dealing with Hardwood.  Coach Courtney doesn't just coach the team he takes major interests in their lives.  He does everything in his power to help his players deal with anything going on in their lives.  The goal of these specific three players is that they have a high chance to go to college to play football on scholarship.  Their dreams are to finally all get out of North Memphis and Coach Courtney does everything in his power to help them get that opportunity.  Although he is a great role model for his players he lacks as a father to his own children.  In the end he knows it's time for him to move on and focus more on his family rather then his team.  It is an incredibly touching story and I for sure recommend watching this documentary.

Peer Gynt: Ase’s Death - Orchestra

The song starts off slower and progresses to a faster pace.
I see the video being in black and white but I can also imagine bright colors so I haven't decided on that yet.  A girl is very distressed, perhaps fighting with a boy. She runs off not knowing where her destination will be.  She just keeps running.  She finds herself in a clean white bathroom.  She takes a long hard look at herself in the mirror and takes noticeable deep breathes.  Messes her hair up by shaking and rubbing her hands in a fast pace through her hair.  She takes different makeup and puts her it messily and carefree on her face.  With a blank face throughout.

Friends (TV Series 1994-2004)

 By Jessica Sheinfeld

A Comedy series based in Manhattan, New York about 6 close young friends.  Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey.  Monica is a controlling neat freak who used to be extremely overweight, but since high school has lost it all and become a successful chef.  Successful with guys... not so much, but she turns that around eventually.  Rachel, Monica's ex-best friend and now newly reconnected best friend ran out on her wedding with her doctor fiance and starts a life on her on... with the help of her new 5 best friends.  Phoebe, an aspiring musician hippie with intense family problems is always happy, but always finds herself falling in love with the wrong men.  Ross is a geeky, nerdy paleontologist who has been in love with Rachel since high school and is determined to be with her now.  Although in love with Rachel he tries to move on and attempts to get it right 3 times, but he only ends up with 3 divorces.  Chandler a financially secure data processor, who relies on humor as a defense mechanism.  Despite being rich, the other 5 friends have no idea what his profession is, and Chandler is a wimpy, average looking cigarette addict, who has never had a serious relationship.  Lastly, Joey, Despite being close to all the friends, he is especially open with Chandler, who his also his roommate. Joey is a small time actor, who desperately wants fame and fortune, and Chandler has high hopes of Joey, so helps Joey with money for acting lessons and professional photographs. Despite being a relatively bad actor, Joey is an adorable, sensitive guy, who is very successful with women, but needs to become famous and rich to complete his successful life.  I most definitely recommend this series full of emotion, drama, and laughter.  All 10 seasons are on Netflix so go for the binge watching!

'Fireworks', Kenneth Anger, 1947

Fireworks

Directed by Kenneth Anger, 1947

Fireworks, an Avant Garde film starring the director himself, is a film of a dream of a dream.  The film is an exploration of homosexuality, violence, and American youth.  Kenneth Anger, director and lead actor, is an Avant Garde film legend.  Fireworks was one of his breakthrough films.  Anger described the film with the following synopsis: “A dissatisfied dreamer awakes, goes out in the night seeking ‘a light’ and is drawn through the needle’s eye. A dream of a dream, he returns to bed less empty than before.”  Fireworks was in all black in white and had only acting, music, and sound effects.  The film had no dialogue, being up for interpretation.  Experimental film is an artistic practice relieving both of visual arts and cinema.  An experimental film is often characterized by the absence of linear narrative, the use of various abstracting techniques, asynchronous sound or even the absence of any sound track. Most such films are made on very low budgets, self-financed or financed through small grants, with a minimal crew. Experimental film emerged in Europe in the 1920s because cinema had matured as a medium and avant-garde movements in the visual arts were growing.

5 Broken Cameras Documentary Review

5 Broken Cameras

The first-ever Palestinian film to be nominated for a best Documentary Feature Academy Award, the critically-acclaimed '5 Broken Cameras' is a deeply personal, first-hand account of life and nonviolent resistance in Bil’in, a West Bank village surrounded by Israeli settlements. Shot by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, who bought his first camera in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son, Gibreel, the film was co-directed by Burnat and Guy Davidi, an Israeli filmmaker. Structured in chapters around the destruction of each one of Burnat’s cameras, the filmmakers’ collaboration follows one family’s evolution over five years of village upheaval. As the years pass in front of the camera, we witness Gibreel grow from a newborn baby into a young boy who observes the world unfolding around him with the astute powers of perception that only children possess.  Burnat watches from behind the lens as olive trees are bulldozed, protests intensify and lives are lost in this cinematic diary and unparalleled record of life in the West Bank.
